Key words: IHD, prevention, interventions.

The work is being carried out at the Clinical Hospital of the War Veterans of Georgia since 1992.

In total 967 patients of both sexes, aged 45-85 yrs with different forms of ischemic heart disease were involved in this study.

On the basis of evidence-based medicine and personal experience following topics were studied:

  • The role of timely invasive interventions in optimization of the primary and secondary prevention of IHD in acute and chronic coronary syndrome.

  • Mortality rate and frequency of end-point complications in patients, who thoroughly followed all preventive principles, were 1.5-1.7 times lower that in those who due to financial difficulties did not perform investigations or adhere to treatment prescribed.

  • The cases requiring coronary artery revascularisation have been identified.

  •  Prevention of major predictors, resulting in significant reduction of life-threatening complications and mortality, were discussed.
