The
data we present reflect the results of the first pilot survey conducted in
Georgia population concerning the lifestyle. The survey was conducted in
autumn 2001 in Tbilisi. The survey aimed to collecting information about
lifestyle and habits that influence health of the population: Smoking,
physical activity, alcohol and food intake and also health
self-evaluation, mental health, usage of medical services and so on. The
survey was one of 32 surveys conducted under “CINDI” (Countrywide
Integrated Noncommunicable Diseases Intervention) program in 26 countries
of Europe in 1999-2002. 1000
persons aged 18-64 years, were choused and grouped in 100 clusters
according to so called “rapid survey cluster-method”. The data was
collected on the basis face-to-face interview that was the reason of high
percentage responses (94.1%). For the survey were used questionnaires,
proposed by “CINDI” program, adapted with double translation. The
results of survey revealed smokers comprise 68% of men and
19% of woman. The pick of Smoking for both sexes is age 35-44. The
79% of smokers continue to smoke now. We
can conclude that majority of population is informed about tobacco danger
in generally. Almost half wants to give up smoking, 1/3 has tried at least
once to restrict smoking, despite of this the majority of population is
under permanent and intensive influence of smoke, the rate of passive
smoking is high and only small part receives recommendation Smoking
restriction from medical staff. Consequently, failure to take strong
measures against smoking will result in rapid deterioration of health
indicators. |
