The Pathanatomical Service of Georgia is
80 years old. On October . . . 2003 the 80th Anniversary of the Georgian
Pathanatomical School and the Jubilees of Prof.. Acad. T. Dekanosidze,
the leader in this field and his personal activity were celebrated in
the State Opera and Ballet Theatre, in Tbilisi. Mr. Dimitri Kordzaia,
the head of the Scientific and Educational Department of the Ministry of
Labor, Welfare and Public Health of Georgia chaired the ceremony.
The Georgian Pathanatomic School is 8 yrs. The foundation of the
Pathanatomic Chair of the Medical Faculty of the Tbilisi University in
1922 is associated with the name of Prof. Acad. Vladimir Zhgenti member
of Georgian Academy of the Scioences. Acad. V. Zhgenti headed the Chair
for about fifty years, until his death. Besides, in 1935 he founded the
Chair of Pathanatomy and Forensic Medicine at the Post-Graduate Training
Institute, where he was the Head until 1947. Since 1947, and for four
decades, Prof. Arkadi Jorbenadze was the Head of the Chair.
After Acad. V. Zhgenti such outstanding scientists and tutors occupied
the position of the Head of the Pathanatomic Chair of the Tbilisi
Medical University as Prof. Acad. I. Tatishvili (1972-73), Prof. T.
Dekanosidze, the Corresponding Member of the Academy of Sciences of
Georgia (1973-1995). Since 1996, Prof. O. Khardzeishvili heads the
Chair. Dedication of these leading figures to the fundamental field of
medicine and their professional and responsibility were the basis of the
Georgian Pathanatomic School that is still serving Georgian Medicine.
