Michael Saakashvili: a scientist, teacher and a public man

Michael Saakashvili is known for his valuable contribution and great service to the history of the Georgian Medical Science. A wonderful neuropathologist, theorist and clinical physician, in 1943 M. Saakashvili founded the chair of the History of Medicine in Tbilisi Medical University. In 1945 he founded the department with the same name in the Institute of History of the Georgian Academy of Science.
In 1950 Professor Saakashvili became the head of the Medical Institute. Thanks to him no area in the History of Georgian Medicine was left unlearned. Michael Saakashvili made his best to continue the traditions started by Professor Lado Kotetishvili and contributed a lot to the processing and publishing of the numerous medical manuscripts.
“The history of the Georgian Medicine” is considered to be the wreath of M. Saakashvili’s studies. It was planned as the five-volume fundamental work, but unfortunately the Professor himself could see the edition of only two of them.
Professor Michael Saakashvili’s work as a scientist, teacher and a public man is highly appreciated by the grateful descendants. His scientific heritage belongs not only to the Georgian nation, but to the whole civilization.
