![]() Therapeutic angiogenesis was implemented in the beginning of the 80-eth and today is widely used in the leading hospitals of the world. Interventional therapy is a serious alternative to already intensively used surgical methods, such as angioplastics and aorto-coronary by-pass. Interventional therapy is less traumatic and is the only effective method when surgical intervention could not be used. It is important to mention here, that Georgian scientist, Prof. Nickolas Kipshidze, who is working in the USA, gained popularity together with other leading specialists of the world. The Monograph “Angiogenesis” published in 2003 by Jafar Vossoughi, Nickolas Kipshidze, Jeffrey W Moses, and John W Karanian is a work that is very important for the whole medical society and especially for the specialists working in interventional therapy, angiology and cardiology. The Monograph consists of two parts; part 1 – Clinical Angiogenesis, and part 2 – Basic Medical and Pre-clinical Trials. The book includes 22 works, such as biomechanisms of angiogenesis, transmyocardial laser revascularization; therapeutic angiogenesis: pre-clinical and early clinical experience, role of basal membranes in angiogenesis; coronary collateral growth, the important role of NO endovascular endothelial growth factors; human myoblast angiogenesis, as the carrier of the human endothelial growth factor, its role in myocardial regeneration, and others. |
