Humanitarian Medical Action for the Support of
the  Refugees

 In July-August, 2003 the NGO Coalition for the Support of the Refugees carried out humanitarian medical action in the cities of Batumi, Poti and Kobuleti.
Following member-organization-Tskhneti Regional policlinic department of the Abkhazeti Health Ministry, Georgian International Society of Cardiomyopathy, the Center of Psycho-Social Rehabilitation of Oncological Patients, Tskhneti Ltd "Tskhumi" of the Tbilisi City Hall, "Kivanis Club – Tbilisi", and volontere-physicians participated in the Action.
Medical services included:
1. Consultations of internists, cardiologists, pediatrician, neurologists, gynecologists and oncologists;
2. ECG;
3. Termography of mummalian glaunds;
4. Stomatological procedures (teeth extractions);
5. Clinical-laboratory investigations.
Drugs, prescribed during the actions, were received from the French Department of the International Organization "Physicians without Borders", Tskhneti Regional Polyclinic Department of the Abkhazeti Health Ministry and Women’s Outpatient Clinic and delivered to patients free of charge.
More, then 662 examinations/tests were carried out in 102 pts in Batumi, 372 pts in Poti, and 147 pts in Kobuleti. Statistical evaluation of the data obtained revealed pathologies of the circulatory system. With the highest prevalence of arterial hypertension, then come nervous system and sensory organ pathologies and then-urea-genital tract infections and malformations.
Unfortunately, the awareness of the refugees in these cities on the State guarantees and their rights to obtain medical care is as low, as in other regions visited.
